With the new ORION tape library, we are setting new standards in the world of modern data storage. Developed and manufactured in the heart of the Black Forest, the ORION combines over 1,100 tape slots and up to 24 drives in a single rack – optimally designed for use in data centers, enterprise companies, hyperscalers, and scientific institutions.

Why the ORION Tape Library is so impressive
Scalable
In combination with an S3 appliance, multiple systems can be connected to form a larger library with several thousand tape slots.

With strict quality standards and extensive durability and reliability testing, ORION is one of the most reliable tape libraries on the market. If necessary, all major assemblies have been designed to be replaced quickly and without tools – for minimal downtime.

ORION MC6 – Maximum capacity in a small space
The ORION MC6 is specially designed to maintain large amounts of data in a single rack. The base configuration offers space for up to 1,115 tapes and up to 3 LTO-FH drives. For higher performance requirements, a variant with 1,052 tape slots and 24 LTO-FH drives is available.
Depending on requirements, further configurations are possible – with more drives or additional tape slots. For even greater scalability, an S3 head can be flexibly integrated outside the rack.

Flexible integration with S3-to-tape gateways
ORION is compatible with all common S3-to-tape gateways (object store to tape) and can be flexibly adapted to different infrastructure requirements.
When paired with an external gateway, ORION is available in 42U and 48U height racks.
The 48U rack can also provide 6U for integration of an S3 system.
Special features in connection with S3-to-Tape gateways
In ORION, the first 6 height units are left free for the installation of S3 appliances and are delivered with a preconfigured S3-to-Tape gateway. Thanks to the standardized S3 interface, data can be written to tape quickly. Multiple libraries can be connected via the gateway to form a scalable system with thousands of storage locations – like a single system.
